Organizational Overview
Hose Company No. 4 operates out of two fire stations, one within the city limits of Harrisonburg, and one just outside of the city on Port Republic Road. Out of these two stations, we operate twelve pieces of fire apparatus that are designed to allow us to help those in need in the most effective way possible. Each of our stations are staffed during the weekdays (6am to 6pm, Monday through Friday) with two career personnel, who are employed by the Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue. We are lucky to have an excellent career staff who strive to build upon the service all emergency personnel provide. We are fortunate to have a great working relationship with our career staff members and we continue to work with them in order to provide the best possible service. In fact, it is common to find volunteers responding to emergency calls during the daytime with career personnel.
We are also very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, which is an organization that provides emergency medical services to the citizens of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Our two organizations operate seamlessly on thousands of emergency incidents every year. For more information on the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, visit http://www.rescue40.org.
Our main station (located at 210 E. Rock Street) is a shared firehouse between Hose Company No. 4 and the Harrisonburg Fire Department's Engine Company 23. The opportunity to work with the many experienced Harrisonburg firefighters allows our members to develop their firefighting and emergency medical skills. The Harrisonburg Fire Department's constant support of our organization is vital to the sustainability of volunteer emergency services in the region.
Our emergency operations are managed by a team of six line officers, who, in conjunction with the staff of the Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue, ensure that all emergencies within our response area are mitigated in an efficient and effective manner. Administrative functions are controlled by a board of ten volunteer members, who serve to ensure that our organization is operating in a fiscally responsible manner. All members of the Board of Directors are also Active or Life members of the organization. Without the hard work from these sixteen officers, our organization would not be able to function.
Volunteer members of Hose Company No. 4 are responsible for answering all emergency calls at night after 6pm and all day during the weekends. Without the community's continual support, we would not be able to provide the high quality of service that our citizens can expect.
